Bill Bounds

Bellingham, WA

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Alpha Prototypes manufactures prototypes and conceptual models using CNC, stereolithography - SLA, FDM Fused Deposition Modeling, ZCORP 3D Printing, and Polyjet technologies. What inspired you to launch your own website?

We started out as consumers of these services and could not find providers on the web, so it seemed natural to try to fill this niche.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

1998 Software / Programming

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Tried to find a name that was easy to remember, we like short names.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

We feel our site is easy to use we offer instant quotes on some services and you can purchase straight from the site.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Keep it for income.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

You can definetly see the difference with the more time spend developing the site with the income produced.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Just fine tuning, more graphic design, more user testing etc. to make a better user experience.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

With websites there are always people that just want to call and take up time, it can be difficult to filter out the actual customers with the people who are just looking.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Same as above.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Referals tend to do most of our promoting, just keeping the site easy to use seems to be the key for converting customers.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Thankfully this has not been an issue, and hopefully it will not be in the future.

What is your website address?

Rapid Prototyping
